“Fujairah Plastic Industries” Plans to Increase Its Production Capacity to 100,000 Tons Annually
"Al Kaabi": The UAE is the First Country to Ban Single-Use Bags... 100% of Our Products are Eco-Friendly

The UAE’s Fujairah Plastic Industries Company plans to increase its production capacity to 100,000 tons annually in the coming few years, through its existing plants in the United Arab Emirates and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Eng. Khalid Al Kaabi, CEO of Fujairah Plastic Industries Group, stated that the group aims to double its production capacity to reach 100,000 tons annually in the coming few years, while maintaining the African market as the leading export destination, accounting for 50% of total exports, followed by GCC countries at 20%, and the rest of the global markets at 30%.

He explained that Fujairah Plastic Industries Group was among the first companies to transition to producing biodegradable plastic bags, making all the company’s products environmentally friendly and aligned with the UAE’s vision towards sustainability and environmental preservation.
He pointed out that the UAE has become the first country in the world to ban the use of single-use plastic bags, as part of the second and final phase of UAE Ministry of Climate Change and Environment Decision No. 380 of 2022. This decision prohibits the import, production, or circulation of an additional set of consumer plastic products and single-use bags, effective January, 2026.
Company’s Saudi Plant Production Capacity to Increase by 20% This Year
Al Kaabi reviewed the group’s journey over the past ten years, confirming that the company has witnessed accelerated growth in production and investment. He said: “Ten years ago, our production capacity was only a fraction of what it is today, but we have expanded systematically and strategically.”
He added: “We inaugurated the new Fujairah plant two years ago, which will operate at full capacity by 2026 after the final operational phase is completed.” He confirmed that the company operates based on a scientific methodology that relies on meticulous study before any investment decision, as it is a family-owned group, and every project undergoes comprehensive evaluation to ensure its long-term sustainability.
Speaking about regional expansion in Saudi Arabia, Al Kaabi said: “We have been operating in the Kingdom for over 20 years. The relations between the UAE and Saudi Arabia are strong and long-standing, and we have solid relationships with major brands there. Therefore, we decided to establish a plant in Jeddah to be closer to our clients and enable us to meet local demand more efficiently.”
He added: “The Saudi plant specializes in producing consumer and plastic bags, such as shopping bags, food preservation bags, and waste bags. This has significantly contributed to reducing transportation costs and improving delivery speed for our clients in the Kingdom. We aim to increase the plant’s production capacity by 20% during 2026, raising its output to approximately 600–700 tons per month, equating to nearly 8,000 tons annually.”
Company’s Diverse Products Reach 62 Countries, with Africa Accounting for 50% of Exports
Al Kaabi confirmed that Fujairah Group exports its products to 62 countries worldwide, noting that the African market ranks first in the company’s exports at 50% of total exports, followed by GCC countries at 20%, and then the rest of the global markets at 30%.
He emphasized that the company’s marketing team works with high professionalism in studying target markets before expansion, considering purchasing power, regulatory constraints, and financial transfers. Entering any new market occurs only after a comprehensive assessment that ensures success and sustainability.
Al Kaabi clarified that the future of the industry lies not in quantity but in quality, technology, and sustainability. “Our goal is to remain a reliable global partner and a source of pride for the UAE’s industry.”
From his side, Emad Saeed, Chief Operating Officer of Fujairah Plastic Industries Group, stated that the group links Artificial Intelligence with sustainability. It offers smart labels using NFC and QR Code technologies to track products and verify their origin under the “Secure Packaging” concept. This is alongside using recycled materials like rPET and rPP, and 100% biodegradable bags, which promotes the circular economy and reduces the carbon footprint.
“Saeed”: Integrating AI with Sustainability in Packaging to Keep Pace with Global Developments
Saeed added: “International exhibitions such as ‘Gulfood Manufacturing,’ ‘Food Africa,’ and ‘FI Africa’ represent a major gateway for innovation and establishing commercial and technical partnerships. This enhances our ability for commercial and regional expansion and affirms our position as a primary source for packaging solutions on both regional and global levels.”
Regarding sustainability, Saeed stressed that the group has invested intensively in research and development, updating production lines, and building strong partnerships with suppliers and clients to ensure a sustainable lifecycle for every product.
He explained that the shift towards a circular economy includes producing environmentally friendly plastic bags, new kraft paper bags, and flexible packaging, which has contributed to the company’s global expansion.
Over four decades, Fujairah Group has successfully developed its products to align with environmental progress. It was among the first Gulf companies to introduce environmentally friendly and biodegradable plastic bags, alongside new paper bags and flexible packaging, helping its global expansion and service to the food sector.
