470 Factories Certified Annually and 216 Accredited Slaughterhouses Supported Across Latin America

The Federation of Muslim Associations in Brazil (FAMBRAS), through its subsidiary Fambras Halal, has played a central role in positioning Brazil as the world’s leading exporter of halal products, particularly in animal protein and food commodities.
Dr. Mohamed Hussein El Zoghbi, President of the Federation of Muslim Associations in Brazil (Fambras), highlighted the historic and pivotal role of the “Fambras Halal” certification body in establishing Brazil as the world’s largest exporter of halal products. He explained that the journey began in 1975 with the first shipment of 650 tons of Brazilian halal chicken meat to Saudi Arabia and Kuwait, laying the foundation for global market trust.

Zoghbi emphasized that the institution’s exclusive focus is issuing halal certifications, which strengthens its credibility and upholds the highest standards of integrity and Sharia compliance.
The institution takes pride in exporting trust through over 5,000 certified products to more than 160 countries. It holds accreditation from key international Islamic bodies, including the Gulf Accreditation Center (GAC), the Saudi Halal Center, and the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM), Turkey – Halal Accreditation Agency (HAK).

He pointed to operational figures that reflect its scale: the certifier issues certificates to about 470 factories across Brazil and Latin America annually, supports 216 certified slaughterhouses, and employs around 1,500 specialists.
Zoghbi expressed optimism about the future of the global halal market. He confirmed that Fambras’s strategy will remain dedicated to advancing certification without diversifying into other activities, ensuring unwavering focus on its core mission: guaranteeing full Sharia compliance across all categories—from food and pharmaceuticals to logistics services.
