Can Gulfood Ascend to the Summit ?
As the global food industry celebrated the historic 30th edition of Gulfood last year, its organizers announced a bold ambition and an unprecedented leap: to host the largest edition in the exhibition’s history across a vast area of 240,000 square meters, split between two separate venues—the Dubai World Trade Centre and Expo City Dubai.
This move comes at a pivotal moment. Since announcing this strategic shift, Gulfood is expected to attract up to 8,500 exhibitors from across the globe, in a clear attempt to surpass Germany’s “Anuga,” which currently holds the title of the world’s largest food exhibition. However, the path to the summit is fraught with challenges, and not entirely uncharted.
Paris’s SIAL, another giant in the sector, undertook a similar experiment years ago, attempting to spread across separate sites. Despite significant logistical efforts—including providing private planes to shuttle visitors—the concept failed to gain sufficient traction among exhibitors and visitors, ultimately leading to its abandonment.

Gulfood enters this challenge backed by deep study and the experience of 30 previous editions, through which the exhibition has proven its importance as an indispensable strategic hub for global manufacturers, importers, decision-makers, and experts. It has become a platform for trade deals worth billions of dollars and a living lab for future ideas and technologies.
The accumulated expertise and strong reputation of the organizers, coupled with the superior logistical capabilities that Dubai offers, collectively form a strong bet on the success of this extraordinary edition.
The question echoing through industry circles is: Will the UAE succeed in accommodating this huge volume of participants and ensuring smooth and efficient transit between the two exhibition sites? More importantly: Will Gulfood successfully turn this logistical challenge into an opportunity to truly ascend to the peak of global exhibitions?
For the sixth consecutive year, Commodity Markets Magazine is committed to covering this global gathering. We are here not merely to report numbers, but to observe and analyze this historic transition and highlight the opportunities and challenges it presents. We are watching, questioning, and joining in the hope that Dubai will witness the birth of the largest and most influential exhibition in the world of food industries.
